There’s Nothing Out There

by Frank Dobner

A lot of people feel victimized by things or people. Things seem to be happening to you. One of the foundational beliefs that I have come to know is that there is nothing that can happen to you. The fact is that the world is happening, by you. I have always known this idea in the back of mind, some greater wisdom that never allowed me to believe there really was anyone to blame. I actually think that everyone knows this, if they just stop and get silent a bit. Read More...

Actually, what you are going to read about now is forgiveness. You might think that the above title “Quality” is misleading, but you will understand how quality relates to forgiveness within a few paragraphs. You might not understand what I mean by forgiveness if all you know is a “church” definition of forgiveness. The “church” tends to promote the concept that you CAN do wrong and tries to mitigate this by pardoning your offense once the guilty verdict is reached. This does not work.

You can’t be pardoned for a crime and be innocent any more. This never made sense to me as a boy and now I know why. As I have come to know now from “A Course In Miracles,” that you are actually incapable of ever doing anything such as a “sin” because the truth of who you are is spirit. Think about it…how or why would God ever create anything capable of “wrong.” It doesn’t even make sense. Drop it. Your body, the world and the universe don’t exist in God’s eyes. You made them up. Cut! Let's Do That Part Over

by Dan Doviddio

I’m walking up to a favorite store of mine. It’s on the street as opposed to a mall or shopping center. I open the door, the scent of new merchandise is reminder that I’ve been here before. I’m on a mission, I’m shopping for a new pillow. I walk the twenty feet inside and go up the four steps to the main store. I’ve been here many times and am more than familiar with its layout. The store consists of two long rooms side by side, separated by a common wall. I go through the first room, it’s the sundries room. Funny name sundries, but that’s what this room has. As I walk through I turn right to go into the second room that has the pillows in back where they always are. The door is closed. There seems to be a problem, but an employee soon gets it open. I survey the pillows. Nothing seems to fit what I’m looking for. I continue through to exit the store looking at the housewares in the second section.. Seems they are having a problem with another door. So I backtrack out to the street the way I came in.

Once back out on the street, I check out my surroundings. Everything is where it always is. A familiar street scene in my life. I notice a creek in the park across the street. Hmm, why haven’t I noticed that before? I guess I’m so focused, I sometimes miss things. Read More...

Walks with Teddy B
Teddy B Square

I was going for my morning walk the other day with Teddy B a couple of weeks ago. It was a humid day and it had rained earlier.

Lately I’ve been more mindful of my surroundings. Kind of a walking meditation if you will. Looking for beauty in nature or people or things. Whatever. Allowing the Universe to show me what’s looking good. At least looking good for my perspective.

I was walking along and noticed a very tall pine tree that almost looked like it had been decorated. It was about 100 feet away.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond

by Frank Dobner

I have loved the music of Pink Floyd long before they were ever popular. Floyd chose to expose the underside of psychological experience (the shadow, so to speak) and did it to great effect and success. I believed it then, and still now, that so much of what is said in this music, is but one statement repeated in 14 studio albums and 26 well-played singles. That message is “we are asleep until we know that we are asleep, and only then can you awake.”

Well those are my words, not Pink Floyd’s. Pink Floyd from the title song said it:

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.

I don’t generally like to quote other people’s lyrics, but they just popped into my head today when I was out for a walk. Everybody loves babies and puppies because we marvel at how good babies and puppies must feel, to be so giddy, doing nothing in particular. The rest of us need nuclear arms, pipe organs, beaver skin hats and Sex in The City to keep us happy. The fact is that none of this stuff matters or really exists.

Most of us continually look out into the world to find things or people to make us happy or to blame. For instance, what is your view of the world? Do you experience the world as an evil, conniving, vicious place? The bad news, is that you are creating it. Don’t believe me? Have ever had a “bad streak” where a whole bunch of bad things happened to you? Do you think that those things were a bad set of circumstances? I doubt it. I know this sounds harsh, but love really does make the world go around.

So, assuming that you can find some truth in what I say, you might ask yourself, “so what do you do about it?” I have just recently been introduced to the system of Self Identity ho’oponopono which is built on an old Polynesian practice. It essentially allows you to clean your own diamond. If you think about it, the only thing that separates you from your brilliance is your beliefs. Actually they are poisonous beliefs. They are your guilt and grievances against yourself which are projected out on the world. So the game is to tear down the wall.

When you continually become aware of all of the little judgments and bitches about yourself, the ho’oponopono system allows you recognize them, neutralize them and create an opening that allows you to experience a state that is naturally you….a brilliant diamond. The steps are:

1. I’m sorry. This is an acknowledgment that some thought (without you knowing about it) has entered into your mind and body and is causing havoc. It does not matter how small the thought is. For instance, maybe you never sent a thank you card for the $10 you received from Aunt Betty for your birthday. Well that thought is still there until your see it and do something about it. One important thing to note….it is not necessary to understand why you have the thought either. Just first knowing it, is all you need to do.

2. Please forgive me. You are asking for some greater source (call it what you like….God, Elohim, Divinity, etc.) to take this thought from you. You are not asking the greater source to forgive you, because no real power can even acknowledge that you can be anything but perfect. So don’t bother asking God for forgiveness, because he or she does not know what you’re talking about. Perfection only sees perfection. God is perfect.

3. Thank you. You are showing your faith that this thought has been neutralized on your behalf. You know now that this thought has been taken care of. One thing that I do, is for problems that are persistent, I need to do this 4 step system several times.

4. I love you. This transforms energy from stuck to flowing. It reconnects you to your essence and leaves the diamond brighter.

I find that this system is very akin to what I find in “A Course in Miracles.” Quite simply, the Course is designed to change your mind. The work involved in improving your experience using the above is continuous. Every moment represents another opportunity to be forgiven. And just to repeat, you are not forgiving anyone and you’re definitely not asking to be forgiven by God. That is unnecessary and a waste of time. Only you need your forgiveness. You need to get cleaned up.

I read the book “Zero Limits” co-written by Joe Vitale and Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len last weekend. It is a great place to learn the above technique and how it is really used. In this book, Dr. Hew Len says that your mind is like a PC. If you do not permanently delete unwanted files (bad thoughts) they just go into the recycle bin. In other words, you do not get rid of them, you just get them “out of sight.” Being “out of sight” these ornery thoughts just fester and cause unconscious rage and damage. Although freeing yourself from your personal junk is gift enough, your personal change can effect events, people and things beyond thought.

The real excitement caused by the work of Dr. Hew Len is based on a few principles:

1. The physical universe is an actualization of my thoughts. What is happening “out there” is created always by what is going “in here.” When you think about it, where do you experience the world? It is always inside, isn’t it?

2. When your thoughts are poisonous, they create a poisonous physical reality. Have you ever been around someone that is really angry (without them even speaking a word to you), and you can just feel it? Well, the same thing is going on within you, and AROUND you.

3. You are 100% responsible for what happens in your world through creating perfect thoughts. That means you need to clean, clean, clean.

4. There is no “out there.” Everything exists as thoughts in your mind.

Dark Energy, Dark Matter And The Larger Part Of Ourselves

by Robert Graff

It is only very recently that scientists have discovered dark energy and dark matter. There have been observations about the universe that can become more clearly understood only if these theoretical forces truly exist. One can experience the effects of the wind without seeing it, and this is much like the evidence for the existence of dark energy and dark matter. Its existence cannot be ignored or denied.

Dark energy is a way to explain how the expansion of the universe can be accelerating. It accounts for 74% of the energy-mass of the universe. Dark matter is a way to explain gravitational effects on both light and matter, bending light and affecting the path of travel of matter. Dark matter accounts for about 23% of the energy-mass of the universe. What we can see as observable matter only accounts for 3 to 4% of the energy-mass of the universe!

I see an analogy here which can be applied to our physical beings. The non-physical, larger part of ourselves is analogous to the dark energy and dark matter of the universe. The larger part (by far) of who we are is non-physical, but overwhelming evidence suggests that this larger part, (our inner-being, soul, god-force, higher-self, etc.) is more who we are than the flesh & bones we normally consider to be “us.”

Our entire physical bodies appear to be designed around being vibrational sensors. That is, we are universal probes, much like the space probes that NASA sends out to sense other worlds. Every one of our senses is a way to sense vibrational differences in energy. It would only make sense that what we sense mostly would be the effects of energy of which there is the most: dark energy and dark matter.

Our emotions are the interface, and a way to bridge these two aspects of ourselves. Paying attention to our emotions gives us access to energy and information that our classical physical senses cannot. Our emotions provide us with the overwhelming evidence that there is more to our existence than what we know as 'reality.' However, our emotions are more than just sensors, they are guides, lighting the way to joy, step by step. Pay attention to your emotions, and the bigger part of yourself and you will be in alignment with the most powerful forces in the Universe.

Living From The Inside Out

by Frank Dobner
I was walking the path along the Fox River, near my house just recently. I stopped when I noticed a stretch of the path where the surface of the asphalt was getting punctured by plants growing from underneath. These plants, both indifferent and impersonal to this intrusion, were about to spoil the surface of perfectly good asphalt. This seemed to be a stretch of the path where the asphalt was new or maybe the plants very hearty, but apparently chosen carefully.
All my life, I have been amazed at the miracle of  a “frail” plant  punching through 3 or 4 inches of stubborn asphalt just to find the sky. A plant appears to be such a delicate thing. If you wanted to, you could probably easily pull this plant (weed, really) out by the roots with one hand. Yet, it has the wherewithal to decide that it will blossom despite this slight surface obstruction.
Yet that is indeed the way we grow. A lot of times, we think  that we do things because it is the thing to do, for financial gain, to impress someone, or maybe do the American way. The fact is that all life grows outward. It is actually not even
growing to anything. It is growing towards itself.
In the movie “The Matrix,” Neo….Mr. Anderson (cue, deep slow agent voice) has the gnawing feeling of something big in him that is just not happening. He knows that there is something wrong. He is troubled and searching. When offered the blue pill, he declines it in favor of finding out the chance of something through the red pill about the Matrix. His only  promise, was as Morpheus warns Neo “Remember, all I’m offering is the truth. Nothing more.”
I am not going to tell you a lot of patty-cake spirituality stuff. Spirituality is not out there! It is real and it is “in here.” The good news, is that all suffering is good. As Buddha states, all the world is suffering. Why is that good? Because suffering is nothing but information. It is emotional information created from your misperception about who you think you are. After Neo comes into his own, he looks back and realizes the value of angst and becomes “The One.”
I think it is really interesting to know in what succession all of this happens. The path of the realization of who you are does not come from what you think you are. At least not originally. The path of knowing happens sort of like I show in the picture I created and show here. BeingFeelingThinking-296x300
Being – First you just really are something incredible. You may be thinking that I am talkin about your body right now, correct?  Well I actually mean the whole thing, including your body. For most people, your body, your possessions and the people in your “life” are THE  prima facie evidence for your life.  But I am talking about the “iceberg you” below the surface. This is the root of who you are, that is real life. The root that says, “I am going through asphalt today.” It is the information that is expressed through you, without your permission. The plant does not get a choice, it is under strict orders. It is sort of like on-board system software that runs your hardware and appears unchangeable by you, the user. We are little more lucky than the plant, as I will explain.
Feeling – evolutionarily speaking, feeling is the system that allows us to process a multitude of data in a sort of summary fashion. Like a gazelle out on the savanah that can process thousands of blades of moving grass and can detect immediately that a specific type of movement is indeed a lion in tall grass and not just the wind blowing.
The problem with feeling for us is that our emotions are the product of a long evolutionary progression that has not yet caught up with our situation yet. Unfortunately for us, our environment has changed quickly. We are still reacting in a “fight or flight” response to information that mimics the physical reality that we once lived in.
For example, why should you really be afraid of making cold calls to make a sale to prospective customers? They are either going to say “yes”, “no” and possible just hang-up. You are not going to get bit by an animal or get clubbed by another human being, usually. Your emotions are treating the situation of a cold call as a synthetic stimulus that mimics a true and present danger that was true at one point in history, but is now, long gone.  Hint – This is where thinking can be your friend.
Thinking – the intellectual mind is very late in coming in human evolution. That is because, in relation to feeling, we actually think very slowly. However thinking actually has the direct ability to change things in our environment and can actually change feeling. The ego gets a bad rap these days. A Course in Miracles pejoratively labels the ego, but in fact without the ego, you may have a hard time understanding how to use a word processor for example.
It is both in thinking and feeling that we have a direct active and conscious part to play in our own individual evolution. I say evolution because your life on earth is just a segment of the life that just is and does not die, as we say here. Your life will progress with the assistance of this experience. When you encounter beliefs that are not in accordance with who you are, you will feel something vaguely dull and incorrect (just like Neo).
OK, so why I did I tell you all of this? The point of all of this is that everyday on earth is sort of a test. We are testing to see what works and does not work. We are testing different beliefs. We create thoughts from internal and external events and decide to enact them through beliefs (aka – long standing thoughts).
When your beliefs become out of step with who you are, you are misperceiving who you are. You need to change your beliefs, or suffering ensues. So you will get sent back to the endless reincarnation cycle of birth and rebirth, if you don’t do some heavy lifting. You want to cycle quickly through beliefs that are of disservice to your greatness, unless you want to spend your life as a figurative frog. Your choice….blue or red.

Welcome to the World You Created - The Pause that Refreshes

by Dan Doviddio

A friend of mine had lent me a movie, ‘Closer than Close’. Quoting from the movies website: Closer than Close is spiritual cinema at its finest -- a documentary that investigates the spiritual search; the search for the essential questions of human life: is there an eternal part of ourselves? what has lasting meaning? where do we find certainty? Rather than philosophical discussion, it explores the possibility of living a life devoted to a search for answers, and the radical possibility that answers exist, closer than we can imagine, within our selves.

At the time I was having these uneasy ego rumblings that I was ignoring. Watching the movie, I seemed to have picked up ego rumblings from the people in the movie itself. One man says, ‘since five years old, I’ve had this uneasy feeling inside’. I identified with him. I said to myself at that moment ‘my ego’s got to go’.

I had acknowledged recently that my ego’s need for all it’s perceived issues had to be be taken out. Not just dealt with, taken out, mugged in a back alley, serious action, to put my ego in it’s place. So at that moment in the movie, I took inspired action. I decided to cognitively declare to my ego ‘
I give up, I surrender, I let that go’ of any issue that my ego brought up. And it actually worked. Instant relief.

I’ve been working on this for months now before I decided to write about it.

The Pause That Refereshes
The Pause

So what I found was your mind can get instant relief from deciding to reduce the ego’s need to always bringing up issues. Sure a lot of it is just mind/ego combo sifting through contrast. But a lot of time it’s an ongoing program running underneath whatever you happen to be doing. As it surfaces, there are times you just want to silence it.

Insert in Your Mind a New Program
What I did was, I decided to insert a new program in my mind. In my case, this meant sitting down and letting the ego know that I was going to help it be more effective in our everyday life. Notice I don’t threaten the ego. I am making it a partner in helping me. I said, meant and felt the words ‘I give up, I surrender, I let you go’. This part needs to be set with feeling. This is the set point to make the words ‘I give up, I surrender, I let you go’ have real meaning when they are spoken. Program inserted.

As ego generated thoughts came through, I said my new mantra. Instant relief.

I did find that I became more aware of my thoughts when first using ‘The Power Pause’. I used it a lot to dissipate whatever thoughts not wanted or were against certain goals I had set.

When meditating one morning, I realized that one still must demand to feel good. Paying too much attention to the thoughts not wanted, sometimes brought more thoughts after while. So you still need to have a point that you always want to feel good. And this is where most of your work needs to be focused.

Some Tools
Still getting rid of these background running programs are important. If you can sit down and take the time and really discipline yourself Katie Bryon’s ‘The Work’ can be real useful.

Another good tool is in Esther and Jerry Hicks ‘Ask and it is Given’ process #22: Moving up the Emotional Scale. The point of moving up the emotional scale is to change your reality by improving your feelings, not by taking action.

For me, I also use Ho”oponopono. I can’t emphasize enough how this simple program works. It is very effective and works effortlessly.

Saying these four phrases have meaning to your conscious / sub-conscious being.
  • I Love You
  • I’m Sorry
  • Please Forgive Me
  • Thank You

The key is to use these phrases as needed. According to Rev. James Vinson Wingo, DD , it is not good to say the phrases over and over. Like a general anti-biotic, you will not hit the root cause of the issue you need to address.

It is best to find what the true cause is of what you are feeling. If there is an issue that you keep responding to and keep getting the sanme results, it might be good to take some quiet time, maybe during meditation and seeing where this issue comes from. Then ‘pono it (using the four phrases).

The Power Point and Taking Mental Action
I came up with my own process during a run in December. I found when I neutralized the not wanted thought, there is a pause. The pause of neutrality. This is a personal power point. At this moment you can take charge of the thought.

The Power Inquisition: You can ask ‘where did that come from’. I was putting off a project I needed to do. Nothing that bad either. Even when I do start the project, I know I’ll enjoy doing it. I could just feel a little dread. You know the feeling, that procrastination feeling. I did ‘The Pause’. Then I inquired why did I procrastinate. I found an old program from my childhood. My father was big in having us kids do chores before we could go play. I mean a lot of chores, or so it seemed at the time. There was some resentment still built up from that. So I let that go too. Once you realize why you do something, it can be easier to move on.

The Power Point Punch: This is when you’ve done the Power Point and want to take advantage of the pause and turn it around. This is where you pivot from the thought that isn’t wanted and turn it around into what you do want. Say you have a sales call coming up. You’re feeling trepidation and a little unsure of yourself. You insert the Power Pause statement to stop the current program you’re running. The old program is temporarily in a neutral state. Now you pivot, you realize that you were feeling trepidation based on a program running. Now in the neutral mode, you pivot, say to yourself ‘I’m a great salesperson, who wouldn’t want to see me. I’m bringing this buyer something they really want. They may not know it yet, but they will’.

If you’ve done your other work, the work of feeling good (the most important work), you will turn this moment around due to the fact you remember what good feels like. That feeling can be re-generated anytime you ‘choose’.

Why does this all work? Physically speaking, you’re building new neural pathways. As you create a thought, building new neural pathways to a response or feeling is taking charge of yourself. When you create new habits of thinking, the neural pathway gets stronger. To see a great video of how someone cured themselves using their mind.

See parts 2 through 5 here

As you see, all of the above here is conscious work. I remember watching a travel show on our local public TV station. The program is Globe Trekkers. They were doing a Mexico travel program. They did a small piece on a group of Indians that practiced the Nagual. These Indians call most of the people of the world sleepwalkers. If you want to experience life in all it’s beautiful wonder, You gotta wake up.

Conscious Choices - Good Morning!

by Dan Doviddio

So, what’s your morning like when you get up?

Do you leap to that cherished morning stimulant?
Good Morning-1a

Do you immediately jump in the shower?
Good Morning-5

Does your ‘To Do List’ start dancing in your head?
Good Morning-4

How about making feeling good the first thing you do in the morning? Why not consciously create a solid footing that your day can stand on.

It was about a year ago I decided to get up earlier in the morning and meditate. At first, it wasn’t easy. I used Orin guided meditations from Sanaya Roman to get started. This gave me a basis to pull from.

What I found, even using guided meditations was a certain peace within. Life’s many contrasts didn’t throw me for loops like in the past. Law of Attraction teachings were starting to be applied at a faster pace.

I took what I learned from the Orin meditations and with some tweaking, created my own meditation. A lot had to do with ...well...just doing the meditation. So as my year anniversary with meditation approaches, I thought I’d share my morning process. It’s great to have a starting point and then make it your own.

The Good Morning Process.
The idea of The Morning Process was to have a way I could use to change my old habit and start a new one. So instead of just getting up and hitting the coffee pot, I divided up my morning to best set my mind for the day ahead.

Before Rising Out of Bed
As I was in the process of setting up my morning, I found an even earlier starting point to my morning. When we first wake up we are in a state of Hypnogogia. Hypnogogia is another word for the state between being awake and asleep. Just before you go into deep sleep, your mind lowers it's boundaries and you enter a state of hypnogogia. Your mind is also in a state of hypnogogia when you first wake up.

I used this state to repeat my Superbeings Truths and then I add my ‘Awareness of My Higher Self Meditation’. Both of these come from John Randolph Price. I memorized both as to not stir from the Hypnogogia state. I can’t tell you what a difference this has made. It stops the wandering mind and focuses you on feeling good. (I’ll include both ‘Superbeings Truths’ and ‘Awareness of My Higher Self Meditation’ at the end).
By the way I want to sidetrack a little on feeling good. Sometimes we have things in our lives that stray our mind from feeling good. If you find this happening in the morning, you must demand to feel good. It is your right to feel good. But sometimes you must demand it. So if my thoughts wander before I get up with the ‘to do list’ in my mind, I demand to feel good and then repeat my ‘Superbeings Truths’ and ‘Awareness of My Higher Self Meditation’.

First Thing Out of Bed
Take care of the little business. You know...bathroom, medications if any, drink of water, whatever short term thing your wearing. Then it’s time for...

Set up a place where you can be comfortable and make sure there are not to be any interuptions. I use my home office, so I always turn the phone(s) ringer off.

Now your in your seat. First I start with a ‘ritual’. A ritual triggers the mind that meditation will begin and focuses the mind to distract wandering.

I use a singing bowl to get started and then play it again when I’m done meditating.

singing bowl cutout 100-poster

Another good item you could use is a scented candle. Obviously use a scent you like. This will trigger the mind that meditation is starting and when you blow the candle out, it’s the end.

red candle-100a

Now you’re ready to meditate. There are no rules here. It’s just you and your thoughts. Again, I’m just sharing my method here.

From Sanaya Roman’s Orin meditations I learned to utilize light first off. After the singing bowl has stopped, I feel a light entering the top of my head. Just a nice glowing light. Whatever color you want, I use a bright white. As I feel the light go through me from top to bottom, I relax that part of my body. So as the light goes through my head, I relax my forehead, eyes, jaw and so on. Then I feel myself with the light all throughout myself. At this point you can learn to play with the light. Sometimes I’ll propel the light out through my heart center (just below your heart). You can experiment with filling a room with light you are generating and bringing it back to yourself.

Now you can skip the ‘Light’ part if you want. I like it because seeing/feeling the light really occupies your mind and gives you a chance to relax your body.

Okay, now it’s time for the meditation part of your program. This was difficult for me at first. I wanted to get that nice cup of espresso, have something to eat and maybe check the sports page. So to discipline myself, I breathe in and count one, breathe out and count two...all the way to two hundred. I concentrate on the counting and when a thought comes across, if I catch it, I tell myself ‘it’s just a thought’. That will usually dissipate ‘that thought’. Of course another thought in all liklihood will appear. That’s okay, just keep going. I noticed at first that around 123, my mind started clearing up. Sometimes if my mind is clear, I stop counting and just breathe in and out and pay attention to my senses, such as hearing the clock tick or outside noises. Also something else I noticed is that sometimes you get these weird itches or like a ping itch. This is usually good and means your getting really close to that meditative state.

What happens in that meditative state? It’s always something different for me. Sometimes it’s just a real peacful feeling ( oh man, I’m hearing that Eagles song...make it stop... there it goes). Sometimes I get some guidance from my Higher Self, like writing this column, came from my Higher Self’s persistence. One time I was told to feel every move I did that day. One of the most incredible days I’ve had. The whole day was a meditation, no thoughts, but just feeling the body’s movements.

The key thing though is that you gain a new balancing point that is your set point. You know what it is like to feel peace.

I try to never miss any morning for meditation. If I’m traveling for business or pleasure, I still do ‘the Morning Process’. I find if I skip two days, I can notice the effects now. I notice the lack of easy peace.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to meditate, you just start doing it. I wanted to put my process down since when I was looking I didn’t find a way I could really follow. So if this helps you to just start meditating, great!

If you can rise 15 to 25 minutes earlier in the morning, you’ll find that your morning routine will reward you all day. And then you’ll find that there is nothing more important in your day than your morning meditation. It’s a great base to stand on all day.

Now time for that morning cup of coffee!
Good Morning-2a
